What is diazepam?
Diazepam 5mg is a benzodiazepine (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peen)).Benzodiazepines work by stimulating certain brain neurotransmitters.
Anxiety disorders and alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be treated with diazepam.
Warnings
Diazepam 5mg can slow or stop your breathing, especially if you have recently used an opioid medication, alcohol, or other drugs that can slow your breathing.
ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, AND DEATH CAN RESULT FROM THE MISUSE OF Diazepam 5mg, especially in children and others who use it without a prescription. Make sure the medication is kept out of reach of others.
Using this medicine with opioid medicine, alcohol, or other drugs that cause drowsiness or slow breathing can cause fatal side effects.
How should I take diazepam?
Take Diazepam 5mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Never use diazepam in larger amounts, or for longer than prescribed. Tell your doctor if you feel an increased urge to use more of this medicine.
Never share this medicine with another person, especially someone with a history of drug addiction. MISUSE CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, OR DEATH. Keep the medicine where others cannot get to it. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.
Use the supplied measuring device to measure liquid medicine (not a kitchen spoon). Diazepam is recommended for short-term use. Over four months, this medicine should not be taken without the advice of your doctor. You should consult your doctor before stopping Diazepam.
Suddenly stopping the medicine after long-term use can cause seizures and withdrawal symptoms.
If I miss a dose, what happens?
Take the medicine as soon as you remember, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Take no more than one dose at a time.
If I overdose, what happens?
Call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical attention. Diazepam overdose can be fatal if you take it with alcohol, opioid medications, or other drugs that cause drowsiness.
Drowsiness, loss of coordination, limping muscles, slow breathing, and coma are some of the overdose symptoms.
